NOETIC

“Noetic, with an immersive score by Szymon Brzóska feels cinematic, sometimes baroque yet intimate.”

- Bert Hertogs, Concert News

I was thrilled when Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui asked me to join him in his new work for the extraordinary GöteborgsOperans Danskompani.
The music, written for and performed by The Göteborg Opera Orchestra is thought as a palette of colors and contrasts, surrounding dancers sometimes as a free soundscape, and sometimes strictly following their movement.

I was especially happy to work on this piece with Swedish singer Miriam Andersen, whose beautiful voice brings us to magical and serene places, as well as with Japanese musician Shogo Yoshi, who masterfully plays taiko drums, bamboo flutes and a string instrument called kokyu adding an oriental and unique flavor to the music.

The Latin texts used in this piece come from the father of noetic philosophy Plato, and from Horacio's songs. The music follows the words into a dichotomic world of contrasts: mind and soul, good and evil, pleasure and pain; eventually leading us to a simple Horatian truth: carpe diem.
