Orbo Novo was Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s another invitation to join forces in creating this piece for Cedar Lake Company in New York. I was both excited and overwhelmed while working in this fascinating, captivating metropolis.
The score, written for piano and string quartet (which was wonderfully performed live by Mosaic String Quartet and Aaron Wunsch) follows the poetry of this beautiful piece, which speaks as much about coming together as of breaking away from one another; adding both steady and coherent rhythmical/harmonic patterns and the touch of melancholy and longing.
